Clearly you are making the best of your situation. There are many that would see your journey as a dream vacation and not understand that for you I guess it’s a default-rehab.
I’ve been in those places while on tour. Places such as Cortina, Venice, Florence …. Are better visited in the off season. ..the more off the better; like early November.

If you’re going to be stuck riding a bike, there aren’t many better places to do it. Cortina was overwhelming, but most places are not like that. Particularly in Italy, most of the people in the small towns speak only Italian, and Turin did not seem overwhelmingly touristic. I enjoy being an outsider but not a member of an overwhelming invasive species.
Sorry to be both behind and terse writing here. I’ll try to spend some more time and catch up, but doing everything on the phone is a major disincentive.
